My name is Sharan Gill. I currently live in Edmonton with my three dogs, Gracie, Dexter, and Bodog. Gracie is a big mixed breed who keeps me humble. Shes rottie or shepherd or mastiff or husky or hound, or all of the above! I have no idea about her history, but she likes to think shes the boss around here and keeps me on my toes. Dexter, my border collie mix, is the puppy who never grew up. Hes an unending source of entertainment… and fear. Hes afraid of pretty much everything except for people and dogs. He is a natural social butterfly and loves everyone. And Bodog, my latest addition, is a miniature pinscher. He was the rescue foster dog who came home with me for training, and just never left. Of course now I wouldnt know how to live without him. He is not scared of anything, except people and dogs. He has come a long way and gets braver every year, but still has a little ways to go before you will no longer be able to tell that he came from a rough beginning.
I grew up about 30 minutes outside of Edmonton begging my parents for a puppy and a pony, just like every other little girl I knew. When I was 12 years old, they finally gave in and bought me my very own horse. Wow! I was in love! And I very quickly learned that horses are a big responsibility, a lot of work, and require a lot of respect. With an animal of that size and strength, if you dont have respect, you are going to get hurt. Its just that simple. And since you cant force a 1200 lb animal to do much of anything, I also learned how to make her want to work with me. I learned patience and persistence, and those are still valuable lessons today. Learning the basics of training with an animal that doesnt allow for shortcuts was a great foundation for dog training!
Later, as an adult, I acquired a rescue dog and discovered I had MUCH more to learn. This poor dog had problems that I just didnt know how to handle! He was scared of everything… including me! I didnt know what to do to help him and turned to a professional trainer for help. Much to my surprise, after watching me work with my dog, this trainer offered me an apprenticeship to teach and mentor me in dog training. I jumped at the chance!
I have since then worked closely with amazing and highly qualified trainers as well as attending seminars and conferences in Canada and the US to learn from the very best in the business. I have steered my education toward work with aggressive, reactive, anxious, fearful, and hyper-active dogs from the very beginning, and have since worked with many, many of these wonderful dogs. Whether a homeless rescue or a dog with a loving home, I have found that all of these dogs can be helped to some degree, and most of them can be transformed! The amazing changes that I have seen these dogs make have inspired me to start my own training business and work every day to help these valuable, saveable members of our families.
Though Im interested and involved in other activities, I find that my work with the dogs is what fills my tank. Training is what energizes me. It focuses and balances me. When Im training I feel CENTERED. My goal is to make your dog feel the same way! I want dogs to enjoy working with me (and with YOU!) as much as I enjoy working with them. This is, of course, how I came up with my business name. I want to help dogs feel focused, balanced, and centered. I want the dog you live with to be a CENTERED CANINE. This is my mission.
My goal is to help scared, confused, frustrated, or just plain stressed out people who really love their dogs but just dont know what to do. I want to show you how to hear and understand what your dog is trying so hard to tell you, and what you can do about it. I want to show you how to talk doglish so that you can tell your dog that you will take care of him, and that he can trust you, in a way that he will also understand. I want to help you gain confidence and peace of mind, and bring balance and calm to your home in a lasting way. And I want to achieve all of this in a way that is fair and respectful to both you and your dog. My methods achieve this in a way that is painless, stress-free, and simple for both of you. If these are also your goals in hiring a trainer, then I am the right trainer for the job. Call or email me today, and lets get started on bringing that stress level down!
